Apple Pie, Apple Sauce, Apple Butter…

If I had to pick one thing to serve as the hallmark of fall, I would have to say it would be apples.  To me, there is nothing else that says “fall is here!” like taking a trip to the apple orchard.

While I was growing up, my Mom would always go to the orchard and pick bushel after bushel of apples.  She would then come home and cook for almost a whole week turning those apples into delicious apple sauce and apple butter.  Our family would indulge in these delicious foods over the next year and my Mom would also give the apple butter away as Christmas presents to friends and family along with a homemade loaf of bread.

This year I got the chance to go to the orchard with my future mother and sister in-law! We had a lot of fun even though it was one of the windiest days of the year!

Of course, as everyone knows, the best part of going to the orchard is eating apples while you pick!

When we were done, we got some cider and donuts. They had a cider slush, which I was so excited about. I thought it would be amazing because it’s like a cross between cider and slurpees. How could it not be?! I have to say I was a little disappointed though.  I think that it just wasn’t frozen enough. It was  more like super cold cider with a couple little ice chunks.
